How to Sell E-books Online in 6 Easy Steps

Choose A Niche Market

Many marketers make the mistake of diversifying too much in order to target all kinds of audiences. Focus in on a niche market and build your product line in that niche market. Not only do you build your credibility in your niche, but you can sell multiple products to interested customers. This allows you to create more profits by offering multiple products to less people. In addition, any complimentary products should be associated with your e-Books. Do not sell a mixture of unrelated products. Nothing discredits you more quickly than when you cross-sell products that are not related to each other.

Think Long Term

Do not expect to make riches overnight. e-Books like any other legitimate product require a persistent marketing effort. It may take days before you sell your first e-Book. A sizable number of prospects won’t respond to marketing communications the first time, for various reasons. But presenting the message repeatedly - perhaps a second, third, fourth, fifth time, or more - will increase your conversion percentages.

Stay Current

There is no use selling products that have outdated content. Information has to be constantly updated. Updating can inject new life into an e-Book, and its newness can be used as a ‘hook’ to gain valuable free publicity. Besides, focus on subjects that are new and interesting. Age old topics would not attract many customers.

Do Not Sell On Price

You may think that pricing an e-Book low would bring in more sales. Many times the opposite is true because it can be perceived as too cheap. When a product is perceived as too cheap, then it loses it’s value. Customers feel like it must not have good content. Educated buyers feel that you get what you pay for. If you price your e-Book very low compared to your competitor, a prospective customer might think that the e-Book is not of good quality. Price your book competitively. In addition, increased prices can equal increased profits.

Test your product

Testing frequently is crucial for succeeding in the e-Book business. You do not want a situation where you have invested too much time, money and effort into your product only to find out that the topic of your product is outdated. The only way of avoiding this is to start with a simple product and gather frequent feedback from your customers. This way you would find mistakes and areas for improvement until you have a proven seller.

Test your marketing campaign

Like the product itself, your marketing campaign also needs to be tested frequently. You need to be extra cautious with the way you use your limited capital. You can lose a lot of money quickly, if not careful. Testing your marketing campaign would help you to figure out which strategies work well and which do not. This will certainly maximize your ROI.

Got Data?

Each of the stories that follow is absolutely factual.

  • When their clothes dryer blew up, the young couple escaped with her cell phone, their toddler son, and one shoe. The house was incinerated in fifteen minutes. She was supporting the family with her home-based business while her husband looked for work. Her business computer was now part of the ashes and rubble that had been their home.
  • A talented and creative freelance writer and curriculum developer had no time to grab her computer when she and her husband had to evacuate their house during Southern California’s wildfire season. All her current and past projects were lost.
  • Leaving her laboratory office after a long day working on a grant proposal, the neurobiologist had no idea that when she returned the next morning to review and submit the proposal - due that day - her computer would refuse to boot up. Fortunately, the problem was not the hard drive; even more fortunately, the proposal had been sent to the university’s finance department for review, and was submitted on time.

I have heard so many heart wrenching stories about people losing family memories, captured in photo albums and personal correspondence, in fires, floods, and other disasters. In this digital age, many of these treasures are stored on our computers: digital photography starts as a computer image before being printed and framed, and nowadays most correspondence is handled through email.

People admit, albeit reluctantly, that yes, they should back up their computers more often - or even at all! Despite my dislike of the word “should,” I completely agree. We really, really should back up our computers, on a planned and regular basis!

So, what keeps us from doing so? There are three primary reasons.

  1. We may be unaware of how many treasures - financial and medical records, digital images of family and friends, emails from college-student sons and daughters and, yes, those all-important business records! - are stored on the hard drive whose reliability we take for granted.
  2. We don’t like to think about unpleasant possibilities, especially when there’s no way to prevent such surprises. The young couple whose clothes dryer blew up certainly never dreamed that their house would - or even could! - burn to the ground that quickly.
  3. Many people are confused and baffled by what to do and how to do it. Even for those who are technically proficient, creating a personal backup and disaster recovery plan ranks only slightly higher than cleaning the bathroom; for the many who find technology confusing and scary, cleaning the bathroom starts looking downright fun compared to figuring out a backup plan!

The good news is that help is available for both planning and for the technology. The biggest job facing you is deciding how detailed you want your plan to be - which depends on how valuable your data is to you. There are three primary questions.

  1. If you were to lose everything on your computer tomorrow, what would it mean to you?
  2. Is there crucial business, medical, and/or financial information on your computer?
  3. Do you know where your software CDs and license keys are?

Once you have answered those questions, you can use my Backup and Disaster Recovery worksheet to create (and then implement!) your own plan. (Find the worksheet on my website at http://www.svahaconcepts.com/backups) If the technology feels too overwhelming and unfamiliar, my fellow coach Beth Lyons (at http://www.techiecoach.com) is a technical guru who loves helping people solve technical challenges.

Whatever you do - please take the time to do something. For your own sake and for the sake of your family, who need the history and the memories that are stored so tenuously on your computer, take the time to define and implement a backup and disaster recovery plan. You’ll be glad you did!

Risk - It’s Everywhere!

The alarm clock awakes you and you are at risk! From your very first step when you get out of bed until you turn out your reading lamp as you close your eyes at night you are always assuming some risk. You can bang your toe with your first step in the morning and you can get an electric shock as you turn out that light at night. Let’s face it, there is risk associated with everything you do.

Some risks are statistically very small but potentially very important - think of the drug tampering crime back in the 80’s when seven people were killed by poison-laced Tylenol. Other risks are statistically higher but with relatively minor effects where we might be unhappy with a purchase. We spend a good portion of our time and energy attempting to eliminate or minimize risk in our personal life and our business life. With each purchasing decision we assess the amount of risk we are comfortable with and then act accordingly. Your customers and prospects do that also and are always seeking to minimize or eliminate the risks they incur.

Obviously, the greater the risk the buyer perceives, the more reluctance there is to purchase. That is why it is difficult to get prospects to change vendors or to get them to try something new without a good reason or a substantial incentive. The lower the risk the easier it is to get someone to try a new vendor or a new product. That is why there are so many “free” offers, coupons, incentives, rebates, and strong guarantees all attempting to lower the risk for the purchaser.

Marketers stay awake at night trying to figure out how to lower the perception of risk for their company’s products figuring that, if they can minimize or eliminate that risk sales will increase as new people will try the product, enjoy the experience and come back for more. Will they win a new customer every time? No, but many great businesses have been built because they have been able to lower the risk enough to attract new customers. Try it!

Data Recovery Over Hard Disk Failure

Hard Disk: An Introduction

Hard Disks are used to store information. All information on computers are stored in files. Hard disks store the majority of information on today’s modern computer. Hard disk drives (HDDs) can be critically damaged by static electricity, shock, and other factors, often resulting in failure or the loss of valuable data. In many cases it may become necessary to recover information from your hard drive. Such retrieval is quite possible.

Hard Disk Failure

*Physical Failures

Physical failure occurs from sudden switch off, power failure, sliding them off desks and cheap components. As for data loss, data is only magnetic impulses on the surface of a hard disk. And ridiculously small bits of magnetism at that! When the magnetic impulse fades, or changes position, trouble starts.

Drive Alignment Drift is another cause of problems. Mechanical devices are subject to wear and tear, heat and cold, loosening tolerances etc.

The small changes in the read/write heads wouldn’t matter usually, as data still gets written in the same place as it will be read later. However, there is some data that hardly ever gets re-written, and that is the Sector ID Headers.

*Logical Failures

Master Boot Record Failure

Technically, when the Master Boot Record is working correctly, the master boot code scans the partition table for the active partition, finds the starting sector, loads a copy of the boot sector from the active partition into memory and then transfers control to the executable code in the boot sector. If the master boot code cannot complete these functions, the system displays a message similar to the MBR error.

*Boot Sector Failure

The boot sector is a region of a hard disk, floppy disk, and other similar data storage device. It is loaded to memory and executed as a part of the bootstrap sequence. The boot sector contains a small computer program that is loaded on the operating system into memory and transfers the control.

Most boot sector failure occurs by the defection of boot sector virus. Boot sector viruses are usually spread by infected floppy disks. In the past, these were usually bootable disks, but this is no longer the case. A floppy disk does not need to be bootable to transmit a boot virus. Any disk can cause infection if it is in the drive when the computer boots up or shuts down.

*Accidentally Deleted Data

Some time some how you may delete a file thinking we don?t need it any more, but in a week or or two you may realize that it is a needed one. It happens to the best of us, but fortunately there are ways to get these lost files back.

When it comes to data on your computer, it is almost impossible to accidentally remove it beyond recoverability. Even if you are intentionally trying to completely wipe a file from your hard drive it is exceedingly difficult.

*Cross Linked Files

A file system error that corrupts the contents of an existing file by writing data from another file into the same cluster. Running Scandisk or a similar program cleans up the problem, but one of the files is no longer usable.

*Bad Sectors

It is a portion of the Hard disk that cannot be used any more. If a part of the disk get bad sector which contains data then those data is to be recovered before use. When you format a disk, the OS will mark all the unusable sector as bad sector, however, this does not affect the overall performance of the disk as the damaged space is considered unusable.

Hard Disk Data Recovery

*Replace the (Circuit Board) PCB

Upon a Hard Drive circuit board failure, it is possible to get back the data by carefully replacing the PCB of the hard drive.

*Replace the Firmware

Hard disk firmware is the information that is used by the computer that allows it to correctly interact with the hard disk. It may be replaced or updated by the matching firmware.

*Replace the Head Stack

There are common situation that may be due to head failures. There is a small chip located in the head stack that is called PREAMPLIFIER. Working with preamplifiers always includes some difficulties, because, practically, they can not withstand static discharges. If re-soldering is needed, one should follow a number of rules to protect a preamplifier from static damage caused by careless finger touching. Although this task is very risky and it should be done in a high secured lab specially created for this task.

*Move the disk to another Drive

In some cases complete functionality of the Hard drive may be disabled while only the internal disk plate is without any damages or errors. In those situations, it is possible to move the disk to another drive.

*Spin-Stand Testers

Hard drive manufactures and their head media; preamplifier and read channel suppliers do have very accurate, very expensive “magic machines” called Spin-Stands. These are used for testing and experimenting with heads and disks. They are used mostly by researcher and development departments.

*Magnetic Force Microscopes (MFM)

Magnetic force microscopy is a powerful tool for high-resolution magnetic imaging of most data storage media. As the density of magnetic media is higher, the bit becomes smaller than the wavelength of light, so optical techniques can not resolve it. General MFM is capable of imaging the magnetic domain of several tens of nanometers. Also, MFM is almost simultaneous with measuring the surface characteristics of topography and roughness of the same area with sub-angstrom vertical resolution.

Recovery Softwares

*SpinRite 6.0

SpinRite is a stand-alone DOS program designed to refurbish hard drives, floppy disks and recover data from marginally or completely unreadable hard drives and floppy disks and from partitions and folders which have become unreadable.

*Ontrack data recovery software

Ontrack Data Recovery offers the industry’s highest quality and cost-effective do-it-yourself data recovery software solutions for almost any data loss situation covering servers, desktops or laptops for all media, operating systems and file types. Ontrack’s EasyRecoveryTM family of products is unmatched in its ability to recover/repair from all causes of lost data.

*Recover My Files

Recover My Files data recovery software will easily recover deleted files emptied from the Windows Recycle Bin, or lost due to the format or corruption of a hard drive, virus or Trojan infection, and unexpected system shutdown or software failure.

Edit Digital Photos - Digital Photo Recovery

Pictures have become such an important part of how we preserve part of our present to carry forward into the future. Since technology brought forth digital photography, it has become the means by which this preservation takes place. Digital photography now captures all of the special events in our lives from weddings and births to music recitals and first dances. With these captured memories being so important, the thought of these photos being gone is unimaginable and their actual loss can be devastating.

Even though it may appear that the camera malfunctioned, all hope isn’t completely lost. There are ways that you can recover your digital photographs, even though you may not be aware of it. Most digital camera’s for instance, use smart cards that will store the information. To be on the safe side, you should always safe your photographs to your card, and transfer them to your computer the first chance you get - then back them up to a CD or DVD.

Many people have thought themselves to have lost or deleted their photos from the computer. This can potentially be a quick fix correction. Check in the recycle bin to see if the photos were moved into here. Drag the photo files to the desktop, then right click and choose restore. Following this procedure will return the photo to the location it was in prior to being moved into the recycle bin.

There may be occasional when your digital photos are not so simple to retrieve. It will be much harder to recover your photos if the camera itself has had hardware problems to occur, or if the smart card has become corrupted. Should this be the case, refer to the software or consult a professional repairman. In the instance of a malfunction, there is software available on the market created for the purpose of correcting digital camera problems. Normally this software can recover the photographs.

Most services and software can recover almost all files that you have on your camera, from JPEG pictures to video files. Most people transfer their pictures to their computer as soon as they can, which can be recovered using data recovery methods. On the other hand, those who don’t, will need a professional to take a look at the camera. If you don’t waste any time and seek a professional immediately, your pictures can normally be recovered.

Digital cameras are something that most of us own these days, as they take professional quality photos. Anytime that it appears you have lost your pictures, you can turn to software and professional recovery services to get your pictures back. Your digital photographs are very important, which is why you’ll want to take care of them. Mistakes and disasters do happen though - which is why there are recovery services.

S Corporation and LLC Comparison Part Two

I wrote this article as a sequel to my last article “C Corporation and S Corporation comparison in easy terms.” If you are deciding which format to use for a small business, it would be prudent to also consider the difference between an S Corporation and an LLC.

The wording used in each separate business entity is slightly different in order to distinguish the format. An S-corporation is held by shareholders, while an LLC is owned by members. Limited Liability Companies tend to have less stringent management and ownership provisions, since they are not designated as a corporation. Corporations are very rigid in regards to decision making, they must use corporate minutes and have regular meetings to make decisions. If you fail to abide by these rules in a corporation the IRS may refuse to allow you to write off certain expenses and assets.

Additionally, an S corporation requires that all shareholders be individual entities, while the members in an LLC can exist as individuals or even other business formations. To explain more simply, an LLC can be partly owned by other corporations and LLCs, while an S Corporation can only be held by individuals (no organizations). If this is an issue in your particular situation, it would obviously be the most advantageous to form a Limited Liability Company online.

Another important distinction between business entities is in the distribution of profits and losses. Both are used as a pass-through entity, but with an LLC you have some flexibility in the distribution. For example, imagine you start a company with $10,000 dollars of initial capital. Your friend invests $2,000, and you cover the remaining $8,000. In the case of an S Corporation your share of the profits would always be 80%, since you have 80% ownership (shares) in the company. However, what if your friend is the primary worker and you both agree that he/she deserves a greater portion of the profit. With the LLC entity, you would be able to distribute profits 60/40 or however you see fit. An S Corporation would be much more complicated, since you would have to allow your friend to buy out your shares in the company in order to change the profit sharing structure.

Both structures are subject to self-employment tax, usually around 15% on average. The biggest disadvantage to choosing a Limited Liability Company formation is that they will be taxed 15% on both profits and salary. An S Corporation will administer taxes on distributed salaries, but not profits.
